Behavior of Early Homo

Q Discuss the evidence for the development of more complex technology through time, from 2.6 MYA (million years ago) through 500,000 years ago (HINT: I am asking about Oldowan and Acheulean tool traditions!). Use archaeological evidence from at least one site for each of these two groups to illustrate your findings. You might consider such issues as stone tool manufacture and use, scavenging or hunting behavior, and other cultural innovations. What is the relationship between new technology and cranial capacity?

Dating between 2.6 million ago and 1.6 million years ago, scientists found the use of primitive stone tools in East Africa which are mostly linked with the Early Pleistocene. The stone tools used in this part were associated with the Oldowan Complex which was the earliest Lower Paleolithic and hominin culture. The early Homo is considered the first toolmaker. Large-brained early hominin in the Olduvai was the first one to make and use tools compared to the small-brained australopithecines (Larsen, 2019). Between 2.6-2.5 million years ago, the East Gona sites were dated while the OGS-6 and OGS-7 are limited to 2.58 million years while combined they represent the Oldowan technology. From the fossil record 2.5 million years ago, no hominin fossil is recorded to sustain the multiple species' presence or absence (Stout et al., 2019).
